The Oceanview Resort opened in 1991. The company was started by mother and son, Agnes and Edward Pike in 1990. They added a gift shop in 1992 and a major expansion in 1999. The resort is now 9,000 square feet, with 10 rooms, a small conference room and banquet room. The business also has four cabins, and a serviced RV lot.

Agnes' background was in the fishery. She managed a number of fish plants for 25 years, until the closure of the cod fishery 1992. She has been the mayor of West St. Modeste for many years, a leader in community economic development for more than 30 years, and has been recognized on many occasions with provincial and regional awards.

Agnes is a local storyteller and can often be found at the business sharing her stories of the community and its culture with hotel guests. She has an innate ability to recall local historical events and is well known for her hospitality.

Edward has been the manager of the Oceanview since its opening. His background before working in the business was in the military. He moved back to Labrador to start the business with his mother Agnes and has since married and has two girls.

Edward is an active member of his community; often leading community events and is the community representative on the local school council.

The Oceanview has been actively involved in local tourism development initiatives over the past 20 years.
